In February 2018, Typefi was shortlisted for an Accessible Books Consortium International Excellence Award—an achievement of which our team is extremely proud!
These annual awards, part of The London Book Fair International Excellence Awards, recognise outstanding leadership and achievements in advancing the accessibility of digital publications for persons who are print disabled.
Two awards are presented each year, one to a publisher and one for a project initiative. Typefi was a finalist for the initiative award, alongside DAISY Forum of India, Dolphin Computer Access in the UK, and Fundação Dorina Nowill para Cegos in Brazil.
The winners were announced at an awards ceremony at The London Book Fair on 10 April 2018. Congratulations to DAISY Forum of India (DFI) on winning this category!
DFI is a consortium of not-for-profit organisations from India who are involved in production of books and reading materials in accessible formats for people who can’t read normal print.
Jason Mitchell, Typefi’s Director of Professional Services, attended the awards and said that the DFI are “worthy winners indeed”.
“I found the story of the DAISY Consortium of India really inspirational. It’s a voluntary organisation that passes on accessible content at no extra cost to those in need—an amazing story of altruism,” Jason said.
“The entire event was filled with great stories. It was great to be part of it.”
Typefi has promoted and facilitated accessible publishing since 2006. We strongly believe that making content accessible to everyone creates a better experience for all consumers, and also makes good sense for publishers for a variety of reasons—ethical, legal, and commercial.
Through built-in XML-based structural tagging and a powerful automation engine, Typefi enables users to automatically generate outputs in a wide range of accessible formats, from the same source content used for ‘standard’ publishing.
Raising awareness amongst our customers and their broader industries about best practices and compliance issues continues to contribute to increasing adoption of accessible formats.
Our team has a culture of “designing with accessibility in mind”, ensuring that publications are “usable” as well as “accessible”. We’re proud of our accessible publishing solutions, and believe they’ve made a real difference to people around the world.
