In October 2017, the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) announced the publication of the STS (Standards Tag Suite), an XML tag suite for the publication of standards.
STS builds upon JATS (Journal Article Tag Suite)—the existing, widely used standard for journal publishers—and a variant of JATS, ISOSTS, the International Organization for Standardization’s (ISO) version of STS created in 2011.
To celebrate the release of the new standard, Typefi and Inera will host a weekly webinar series on how you can best leverage STS. The eight 30-minute recordings will include:

Presenters
Chandi Perera
CEO, Typefi
Chandi joined Typefi in 2006, and has over two decades of publishing and media technology experience. He has acted as a technology consultant to corporations and government agencies around the world, and is a frequent conference speaker in the areas of content management, publishing, media, XML, structured content and digital rights management.
Chandi is a board member of a number of industry bodies and has degrees in Engineering and Computer Science.
Bruce Rosenblum
CEO, Inera & Co-Chair of the NISO STS Working Group
Bruce has more than 35 years of experience designing and implementing electronic publishing solutions. He heads up software development activities at Inera, including the design and development of eXtyles and Edifix.
Bruce also consults on the design of electronic production workflows and application of XML in publishing. He developed the CrossRef Metadata Deposit Schema, co-authored the original NLM DTD, is an active member of the JATS and BITS working groups, and is co-chair of the NISO STS working group. He served on the National Information Standards Organization (NISO) Board of Directors from 2005 to 2013.
His 16 years of joint work with CrossRef earned Inera and CrossRef the 2014 NEPCo Publishing Collaboration Award.
Eric Damitz
Senior Solutions Consultant, Typefi
As a Senior Solutions Consultant, Eric works with customers to determine the best way to use Typefi for their particular needs, and then implements their solution. He started in publishing over 20 years ago as a TeX typesetter at a small development house, where he learned such valuable skills as opaquing film, making Dylux proofs, and pasting up forms with hot wax. He also learned desktop publishing, which was somewhat more useful. He moved to a large educational publishing company and spent 17 years as a production manager working with his colleagues to re-invent how publishing works—several times.
Eric’s particular skillset focuses on publishing automation, workflow improvement, and single-source publishing for both digital and print. He has a degree in Rhetoric (writing, not arguing) from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
Gabriel Powell
Senior Solutions Consultant, Typefi
Gabriel has been teaching InDesign since 2003 and is the author of Instant InDesign, Creating eBooks with Adobe InDesign CS4 & CS5, and Learn Adobe Photoshop CS4 by Video.
As a Senior Solutions Consultant for Typefi Systems and and CTT+ Certified Trainer, Gabriel teaches InDesign, Typefi, and other applications to creative professionals around the globe. He specialises in automated XML publishing, template building, e-book publishing, and accessible publishing.
Guy van der Kolk
Senior Solutions Consultant, Typefi
Guy first got hooked on publishing while attending an international school in Ivory Coast, where he used Pagemaker, Photoshop and an Apple Quicktake 100 camera to help create the yearbook. After many hours of hard work, while holding the final printed product, he knew this was an industry he wanted to be a part of.
Having spent the first 17 years of his life in West Africa, Guy is fluent in three languages and has a multicultural background that has served him well in his career. As an IT consultant and trainer for an Apple Premium reseller and now as a Senior Solutions Consultant for Typefi, he has spent the last 15 years training thousands of people to get the most out of their software.
Antti Saari
Publishing Specialist, Finnish Standards Association
Antti has worked with standards in both drafting and editing stages since 2009. He started as an editor at Finnish Standards Association (SFS) in 2009, and worked a while in IT standardisation, before returning to the world of publishing to help SFS migrate from a FrameMaker-based process to automated XML publishing.
Antti is an active member of CEN’s XML task force and the NISO STS Working Group.
Brian Stanton
Editorial Group Manager, International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
Brian joined ISO in 2005 as an English language Technical Editor. He worked as Editorial Program Manager and Technical Program Manager throughout the dynamic period when ISO modernised its production processes to implement a single-source publication chain.
He is currently Editorial Group Manager responsible for a team of English and French language Technical Editors who assist in the development of International Standards following the XML workflow. He is also ISO coordinator for the maintenance of the ISO/IEC Directives, Part 2, and plays an active role in the training programs organised by ISO.
Brian has a degree in French and German from the University of Birmingham, UK. Prior to joining ISO, he worked for 15 years in the field of education.
Serge Juillerat
Senior Developer, International Organization for Standardization (ISO)
Serge has worked for ISO since 2008 as a Senior Developer, leading the IT efforts of implementing the single-source publication chain. Prior to this he worked for 10 years in various IT roles, all within the publishing industry.
Serge has always been convinced of the value of cross-disciplinary thinking and an understanding of content, and believes the keys to implementing a successful publishing project are keeping in mind the big picture, getting all stakeholders on board, and being pragmatic. Of course, humour goes a long way too!
His fields of expertise range from Framemaker to InDesign, SGML to XML, Omnimark to Saxon—publishing is a great playground to have fun in! He is also an active member of CEN’s XML Task Force and the NISO STS Working Group.
